Higher Education Studio to Lead Renovation for Towson University’s Smith Hall

JMT Architecture, in partnership with Shepley Bulfinch, will lead the design team to renovate Towson University’s Smith Hall. The vacated former College of Science and Mathematics building will be repurposed to consolidate the College of Fine Arts and Communications, Department of Mass Communications, Communications Studies, and Electronic Media and Film, as well to create a home for the University’s Teaching and Learning Center. The Center is focused on accommodating different teaching pedagogies using innovative learning environments. An estimated two thousand students will attend classes in Smith Hall every day once the project is completed.

Our architects are excited to revision the 1960’s-era building to accommodate the 21-st century learning environment for the University’s Media Arts program. Our design will emphasize flexibility, epitomizing the evolving teaching and learning environments in the modern higher education sphere.

JMT Architecture completed the Part II Program for Smith Hall and has been active on Towson’s campus through two recent significant projects: The College of Health Professions and the Institute for Well-Being, both of which are currently under construction.
